1]  How do I sign up for a Driver's Ed Program?

You can sign up a number of ways.
  • Sign up here on the website - just follow the instructions on our Driver's Ed page.
  • Call our office at 772-1009 and ask us to mail or email you our information packet which contains an enrollment form.
  • Call us and tell us when it is convenient for you to drop by our office in Prescott Valley to pick one up.

2]  Do I need to have a permit to take Driver's Ed?

No. You do not need to have a permit to begin your Driver-Ed classroom sessions, but you will need to have one when you want to start taking your in-car lessons.

3]  How do I get a permit?

You must obtain a permit from the Motor Vehicle Division office.  Get a free Driver License Manual at the Motor Vehicle Division office or our office and carefully read pages 6 thru 14 for details about applying for your permit - paying particular attention to identification and legal guardian signatures requirements.  Study the entire manual so that you are well versed in the rules of the road, defensive driving concepts, and other license manual subjects, prior to taking the Instruction Permit Test that you are required to pass in order to earn the permit.

4]  When can I get my permit?

The earliest you may apply for your permit is age 15 years and 6 months.

5]  I heard if I take Driver-Ed I don't have to take a driving test. Is this true?

That was at one time partly true.  As of October 22, 2012 MVD required statewide that all driving skills testing must be done at MVD. Beginning January 12th, 2015 ADOT Motor

Vehicle Division is beginning a new definition for Full Course Driver Education in Arizona. The MVD will change the definition of the Full Course of Driver Training in Arizona to 30 (Thirty) hours of Classroom Instruction, and 10 (Ten) hours of In-Car Behind-the-Wheel

training. If a student completes this course of instruction, and demonstrates the ability to pass an MVD approved Road Test Evaluation, they will be eligible to earn a Training Completion Certificate. Please call us for more details on this new program.

6]  Do I have to have insurance to take driving lessons?

No....our students are protected under our insurance coverage when they are taking lessons.

7]  I want some in-car training but my permit has expired or will soon expire?

You must present a valid instructional permit to your instructor before you can get behind the wheel for a driving lesson. Permits are renewable. If your permit has expired, be prepared to re-take the Instruction Permit test when applying for renewal. If it will soon expire, apply for renewal before it expires and you will avoid re-testing. The renewal fee is $7.00.

8]  Is your teen ready to drive?
While the law may allow your teen to earn a driving permit at the age of 15.5, parents should evaluate their teen's readiness for driving. Beyond being able to operate a vehicle, teens will want to develop good attitudes about driving. Some things to consider:
  • Does your teen generally show good judgment?
  • Does your teen generally resist peer pressure, and are they aware of the heightened risks that all novice drivers face?
  • Are you familiar with current laws, such as the Graduated Drivers License.
  • Have you and your teen discussed the concept of defensive driving, and what it requires of all new drivers.
  • In our Driver Education course we address not only the intellectual and physical requirements for driving, but also the choices and the attitudinal dynamics that are in play when any driver gets behind the wheel.

9]  I'm confused - What's the difference between Driver Education and Driver Training?

Driver Education provides an intellectual context for new drivers with knowledge beyond the state laws and rules of the road. Our course of instruction incorporates multi-faceted defensive driving techniques and perceptual skills that should be mastered while operating a vehicle, and seeks to assist the new driver with a heightened awareness of the driving environment.

Driver Training is the in-car instruction that reinforces the recognition and implementation of the rules of the road as well as in honing a new driver's mechanical and perceptual driving skills.
